Happy Halloween!

Halloween Poem

by T. S.

It was a dark and stormy night,

that brought with it, a gruesome sight.

A zombie clown,

and an old man from town,

were fighting about this lady.

She could bake irresistible pies,

full of old shoes and fatty dead flies.

The men fought and bled,

over whom she would wed,

when they found out she was eighty.

The clown was wounded with misery,

so he tried some wizardry.

He cast a short spell,

that sent him to hell,

and left the old man by himself.

The man, though, didn’t give,

and thought the woman must be his.

So he enchanted her with words,

when demons came in with swords,

and killed the old man as well.

This poem was written by my son (11) and published here with his permission.

New: Gift Certificates

I have just posted a listing for a Gift Certificate in my Etsy store. After the purchase I will send it as a PDF document by e-mail to the buyer. If you would like one in a different amount, let me know and I can create a listing for you.

Update

I guess I am recovering well. I feel pretty good, when I get up in the morning, but after an hour or so I am yearning for the couch. My life  right now feels like a neglected garden, where weeds are sprouting everywhere and the bugs have taken over. Yesterday I found some limp veggies and mouldy yogurt in the fridge. Yuck!

I have been knitting a little bit. My daughter needs a new hat and she picked this one. Before I got sick I looked at a knitted and crocheted (!) hat in a store, that had a thin fleece lining the size of a headband sewn into it. I am thinking about doing this as well. It would eliminate any chance of itching and make it warmer.

I also need to warp my daughter’s loom, which is a bit daunting. Right now I have no patience for finicky things, but she wants to weave a Christmas gift. Maybe I will get an energy boost this afternoon, when we can warp it together.

One positive thing about being sick is that I an indulge in some reading. Right now it is Brisingr. I am a fan!

Resting

Today I finally found out why I have been feeling so lousy lately. I have Pneumonia – again. So far I always get the kind without fever, so it just creeps up on me without knocking me out. Well, I’ll spare you further details, but I promise I will take it easy for a while and I hope for  a speedy recovery. I won’t dye any yarn in the meantime, but I can still mail you your purchases.  Bye for now!

Kaffeeklatsch on Thanksgiving

Kaffeeklatsch is the good old German ( Swiss and Austrian as well) tradition of having friends over in the middle of the afternoon for cake and coffee. I love it, because you have all the fun of being together with much less work compared to a dinner invitation. So we keep doing it, inviting our bewildered Canadian  and German friends who find it oh so nice.

This time I was very lucky. When planning this I had not put much thought in how I would decorate the table. I usually do it on special occasions, but this time it had slipped my mind. So I had to find something quickly.

My kids helped out by setting their chestnut creations on the table, then we went for a walk and collected a few colourful leaves.  These looked so nice on the table, that I want to do this again.

Another confession: I have a weakness for cake stands. I find them adorable and very useful on our small table. Unfortunately they do not store well, so that I own only one.  I decided to make my own, by balancing  pretty square plates on wide, low coffee cups. It looked really nice and was only slightly wobbly.

I hope, you all had a great Thanksgiving!

P.s. While winding yarn I just listened to and Old Time Radio Mystery ( You can find them on iTunes.) where a group of ladies met around the “spinning wheel”, which was in this case a roulette wheel. Funny, no?

Worsted Weight Yarn Now Available

I have ordered some worsted weight wool yarn from Louet called Riverstone. It is a lovely yarn: soft and squishy. One skein will make a hat, two a scarf. It is also suitable for felting.
